Day 3 of Meet the Designers at Owl Tree Studio! Welcome…Girl-Boy-Girl Designs’ Jenn Balding!

When it comes to providing amazing customer service to her clients, Jenn Balding sets the bar pretty high for other designers. In addition to running a digi store at Funky Playground Designs that is growing in inventory weekly, Jenn keep a digi-blog where she has been known to give away freebies that correspond with her shop products (and we’re not talking chintzy freebies, either, folks).
We’re super thrilled to have her join us at Owl Tree Studio, where she’s bringing that same level of customer interaction to our club members, in addition to her fabulously talented designs.
Here is a little about Jenn in her own words:
Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
Incredibly “anal” and somewhat of a perfectionist.  I love crafting of all sorts…my faves are scrapbooking and crocheting. Very happily married to my high school sweet-heart for 16 years with 3 wonderful children.
Tell us one random fact about yourself:
I’m short…5 foot on a good day!
Name your favorite color combination:
I love lime green and black.
What is your favorite quote?
All things in moderation.  Don’t know where that one came from, but I think it’s a pretty good principle to use in most areas of life.
Tell our readers about your super power:
Smell power.  I smell everything!  I often walk around totally disgusted by some smell that no one else (but my mom and sister) can smell.
If you could be any fantasy character, what would you be and why?
Sheesh…what fantasy character would I be?  Maybe Darth Vader…does that count?  Darth Vader ended up a good guy in the end!
Not being a Star Wars fan (I’ve never seen the final installment), I can’t confirm whether or not Darth Vader turned out to be a good guy, but I can confirm that Jenn brings an outstanding amount of talent to Owl Tree Studio. Click the previews below to get a larger image of her product line up for August’s club members.

It is almost here..If you haven't signed up for our newsletter and received your new "free" Beach kit, stop by today and add your name to the list....

Day 2 of Meet the Designers at Owl Tree Studio! Welcome…Torta Gialla’s Linda Tieu!

Many of us have probably dreamed about packing up and moving to a new country for an adventure. Linda Tieu turned that fantasy into a reality, moving from California to Italy to pursue a life of creative passion. Aside from working as a resident designer at Owl Tree Studio, Linda runs an Etsy shop where she sells handmade journals, a ShopHandMade store where she sells adorable digital stamps and two blogs, Tortagialla and Back To Paper. We’re thrilled that she’s decided to share her creativity with our club members on a monthly basis!

Here is a little about Linda in her own words:
Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
I’m originally a valley girl from California who moved all the way to Tuscany, Italy to get married and chase my dreams! Now I’m happily living la bella vita as an artist designer. I work in graphic design, web design, illustration as well as bookmaking…but I’m always learning new things, letting my creative muse run free. I’m all about enjoying life and making the most of it!
Share one random fact about yourself:
I adore turtles – since childhood – who says the tortoise is too slow? Maybe you’re just moving too fast to see the beauty all around you!
Name your favorite color combination:
Greens and blues like the ocean
What is your favorite quote?
“Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.”
-Thomas Edison
Tell our readers about your super power:
A happy dance that makes everyone break out in laughter – or maybe the power only works on my husband?!
If you could be any fantasy character, what would you be and why?
I would be a shapeshifter – talk about cool – be whatever you like whenever you like!
Linda’s positive outlook on life is matched by her creative designs! Click on the photos below to view larger images of her August OTS product lineup.

Owl Tree Studio Introduces….Wild Blueberry Ink’s Shirley Woodard!

Digital Scrapbook DesignerOwl Tree Studio is incredibly excited to include Shirley Woodard Polk of Wild Blueberry Ink to our in-house designer lineup. Shirley is an incredible designer who runs an Etsy shop where she sells digital collage sheets to jewelry crafters and maintains a digi shop at Little Dreamer Designs.
Here is a little about Shirley in her own words:
Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
I love chocolate milk. I don’t do mornings. I think I am funny.  I love having a 2 year old because it gives me a legitimate excuse to watch cartoons. I wish I could adopt every single stray animal and bring them to live with me.
Share one random fact about yourself:
I love grilled cheese and pickle sandwiches :)
Name your favorite color combination:
Sage Green and Brown
What is your favorite quote?
I actually have two.
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny
-Unknown
Everyone has a plan ’til they get punched in the face
~ Mike Tyson
Everyone has a super power. What’s your’s?:
I am a Stay At Home mom who manages to take care of a 2 year old, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 house, a husband, a husband’s personal training and public speaking business while volunteering with the SPCA and running an Etsy Shop, a freelance graphic design company and designing digital scrapbooking products.
My kryptonite is sleep.
If you could be any fantasy character, what would you be and why?
I am 100% Team Edward, so I guess that means I would I have to be a vampire so we could be together?
However I really do think the werewolves are adorable – could I be a werewolf vampire?
Just listening to everything Shirley does in a day leaves me exhausted! Somehow, in her really busy schedule, she’s finding time to create fabulous kits for our club members! Click on the photos below to see a larger image of her OTS product lineup for August.

The Daily Scrapper, Exciting News and Gorgeousness Galore!

Life, for me anyway, is about to get REALLY, REALLY, busy, but I am LOVING it!
First and foremost, I have been offered the fantastic opportunity to be on the creative team of a brand new store called Owl Street Studio! I am so excited to start this new adventure, so you will be hearing a lot about that in the coming weeks! We are working hard to get the store ready to open, and I will be burning the midnight oil making sure that I do my best for both of my teams!

Second, The Daily Scrapper launched its new edition today, and I have THREE layouts featured! This is a fantastic edition that is highlighting some fantastic summer food ideas, a "cool"  featured store called "Cool Scraps Digital" and all of the product highlights are summer related! Don't miss out!

Here are the three layouts I have featured in this weeks new release of The Daily Scrapper.

On a different note, I have been working on a book for Rachael to give to her for her graduation. It is going to consist of some advice I want her to have as she heads out into that big scary world.  I have been so happy with the layouts,  that I wanted to share some with you..but its a secret, so don't tell :)

Ok, that is it for now..but there is going to be a lot coming up, so stay tuned!

Check out the previews below!

And here is my layout with this gorgeous kit!

This turned out to be one of my favorite layouts I have ever done.  The colors in this kit match Rachael's eyes perfectly, and since I am now in "mother of a high school senior" mode, I will be scrapping lots of her pictures!

Day 4--The Great White Water Rafting Adventure

On Tuesday morning, bright and early, we woke up to an overcast day.  The kids have been waiting five years to return to Tennessee just so they can go water rafting. The first time we went, we could only raft the lower river because Courtney was only 3.  This year, however, Courtney turned 8.  The magic year. We can finally go on the upper river.

We set out early--7:00--and drove the hour long trip to Hartford. We were scheduled to take a guided hike up the Smokey Mountains first and then a guided water rafting trip down the mountain. When we got there, our tour guide, Dean, was waiting for us. He went over the route, gave us the information on what to do about the bears and if they attack, and introduced us to another family that was hiking with us that day.  We loved them instantly! They had a daughter that was Rachael's age and another that was Courtney's age.  He had just retired from the Navy after 20 years of service, and it was so interesting learning about their family and travel's and we soon became good friends.  In fact, we became real close when,as we were nearing the top of the hike, Tia spotted a bear and grabbed my hand! I don't know what she thought I was going to do, but we enjoyed a good laugh...and a quick run to make sure we were closer to the others. We had both lagged behind, taking pictures and talking.  We learned that we both enjoyed photography and because of it, had taken to scrapbooking as well.  It is amazing to me that you can meet someone, from Virginia in this case, and find so much in common. We had a great time hiking and fellowshipping.

After the two hour hike up the mountain, the kids were ready to raft down it again. We took a short lunch break, and Dean, our tour guide, asked Courtney if she could handle the wild and crazy rafting! She said she could, and off we went.  Right away, we encountered a HUGE rapid and at one point, we had to fall to the bottom of the raft which scared Courtney to death and just happened to be the moment that they took the pictures!

You can tell by the look on her face that this was not what she had bargained for. But pretty soon, she calmed down, and she enjoyed the rest of the rafting.

We paddled....

and splashed....

We hit the waves going forward....

and at some points he had us turn around in the raft and go BACKWARDS.....

We even went through a rapid, turned around, and went back up it....

He had Allison move to the front of the raft, and a few of us moved around in the raft to make it more even.  Then, we went head first into the rapids which made the front of the raft go under water and the back of the raft go up in the air.  The kids LOVED it! We stayed that way for a few minutes, and he gave the command to lean right, which pulled us out of the current and luckily we stayed upright!

But the funniest part of the day came when we least expected it.  We had finally come to some flat water that happened to be only about a foot deep. He gave the command to "Forward 3" which told us to paddle three times in the forward direction.  Now we had made it through some rough waters without losing anyone, but at this particular time, when we all started to paddle, Allison made the comment that her paddle touched bottom.  I had just finished telling her that it was shallow and to not paddle as deep, when I heard a commotion and looked over to see Kirk on his way out of the raft. I looked just in time to see his butt as it was falling over the raft!  We immediately went into rescue mode.  I yelled at him to get his feet up because they had warned us not to stand.  The currents are so strong that if you take a step and get your foot lodged under a rock, it could drown you very quickly. Rachael and Leah both stuck their paddles out to try and retrieve him, but Dean yelled at him to get his paddle, so he had to give up the rescue to save the paddle. After he swam to the paddle and retrieved it, Dean yelled at us to get him in the boat.  Now, remember that we are a boat full of women and children that are rescuing him while Dean is sitting on his rear end! We rowed as close to him as we could, and I remembered the quick training we had on how to get people back in the boat from when Kirk and I went to Yellowstone last year. I grabbed hold of his vest, planted my feet on the side of the raft, and pulled! Thank goodness he doesn't weigh much! After we got him in the raft, we enjoyed teasing him and Dean proclaimed him the first person in his 30 years of rafting to fall out of the boat in calm water!

All in all, we had a great time! and the kids were ready to go again. If you ever even think about going, make sure to ask for Reverend Dean...you won't be sorry you did! We had the best ride of all the boats that were with us!

On that note, I am off to bed..still laughing about the great, white water rafting adventure, and praising God that it was not ME that went into that water!

Til next time....
